PR blogs

Blogs are becoming one of PR’s best friends nowadays. Public Relations professionals are using blogs and online forums to send their press releases. One of the blogosphere conversations recently has been interestingly about Edelman writing emails to bloggers on behalf of its clients. Then there was the new social media press release template – a new form of press release template where we can include feed details of the company and the release.
What I find very interesting in surfing through the hundreds of PR blogs is that I learn what is happening in the industry in the other side of the globe. What they are doing may not be so practical in India -although some could be localised and used for our clients- they open up new dimensions into our PR thinking. Best of all, everybody can read any blog from anywhere and find something new about the profession. To quote my own example (and am happy about that), Ireland’s PR guru, Piaras Kelly found interesting a post here in Public Relations India and wrote about it in his blog, thus further taking forward an idea to another section of PR bloggers. This led me to think that perhaps although PR and media relations depend a lot on the local market scenario and media scene, a lot of the way we do remains the same across the globe and ideas are coming out from everyone.
On another note, I suppose, the global market cannot help but acknowledge the fast growing PR industry in Asia. As JS Sai wrote in his blog, that WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorell is bullish about the PR industry’s growth in Asia.
As far as India is concerned, I think a new friend of mine, Priya Shah, was right in saying that there are not many PR bloggers. Apart from Sai and Priya, I have come across the blogs of Madal Bahal, and Terrier (However, they have not updated their blogs for quite some time now). Apart from these, I couldn’t find any other – may be there are and I missed them out of sheer ignorance.
I thought Adfactors was starting a blog. No idea what happened to that – but I’d like to give a salute to this kind of agency in India that has stepped forward to embrace new technology and use it to advance the PR profession.
