Is India ready for PR 2.0?

A lot of talk on PR 2.0 is doing the rounds in the global PR blogosphere. So what is it? PR Opinions defines it as a collective term for the impact that many of the Web 2.0 technologies and channels will/are having on communications, although it maintains that the danger of PR 2.0 is manyfold as it equates PR with the technology, which is incorrect.
Simply put, PR 2.0 would be about the new PR practice focussed on how PR profesionals are using web2.0 tools like blogs, social networking sites, forums, etc. to communicate their PR messages. Read this about Richard Edelman, head of Edelman PR, third largest PR group in the world, pitching to bloggers.
Or have a look at the new press release template. Then we have Neville Hobson asking whether journalists are ready for it? More discussions by Stuart Bruce.Read this discussion on whether social networks are the new media.
Now my question - Is India ready for PR 2.0? How many active blogs are in India, talking about new products, companies, services? Or how many corporates or the general people read blogs? How many of us actively use RSS feed readers on our computers? How many PR professionals are ready to take on to this?
To start with RSS feed readers, I have noticed that many key newspapers including the Times group, BS, ET, HBL, HT, and others have started providing RSS feeds, which my colleagues found extremely useful in collecting relevant and categorised industry news delivered on their desktop feed readers every morning. A good value addition to Google News when we have to collect news clips for our clients everyday. But how many journalists, excluding our tech nerd friends from Cybermedia, EFY, Jasubhai, and other IT media houses, are using RSS feeds to compile information?
Secondly, many of our international IT clients have made it mandatory to submit press releases to social forums like Digg and Slashdot. So how many IT blogs are in India that we can submit tech product information to? (I’m compiling a list).
Then we have some of our clients, not necessarily from the IT vertical, enthusiastic about developing company blogs and asking us (PR agency) to develop a research paper, suitable template, content style, angle, etc.etc.
And lastly, how many from the PR fraternity are familiar with blogs or are active contributors?

So you are hinting that we might need another survey in the media…

A very valid point.
India is still far away from media 2.0 and stuff. People give blank stares when I tell them that I blog.

Hi Rajat, aren’t we glad we are the ones starting
Hi pov, great one-liners like before. Yes, I agree managing information is very relevant to technology in this age.
