PR agencies going on an overdrive spells good for job seekers
By Editor on Jun 4, 2006 in industry
Seems like Indian PR agencies are on the overdrive to provide value added services to their clients, apart from the normal media coverage service. For instance I read about Rediffusion DY&R opening a strategic planning division. They talked about building brands through PR like advertising has been doing, and thus pro-active PR campaign planning. What this means outside the board room, out in the field, is something I would love to know. They have added senior members and are looking out for new middle-level people
Talking about value-additions, I thought Perfect Relations has always had a strategic intelligence division or something by that name, that basically do more than getting media clips. For instance bring business to the group, to start with. Of course, they are always on the lookout for people.
Also there is e,Lexicon starting a resource center where they will provide intelligence for different industries. Come to hear about it, the agency has recently roped in some senior management people who are former Vaishnavites and is planning to make another Vaishnavi out of it. Also, on the lookout for people. So may be Vaishnavi Communications too must be needing new people then.
Then there was an ad circulating about Corporate Voice Shandwick looking out for an account director to handle its IT clients. Talking about IT accounts, seems like every agency is on the lookout for PR people who can handle technology clients, be it Text100, Genesis PR, IPAN or 2020India.
Then there are a lot of new agencies, offshoots from old agencies and start-ups by journalists turned PROs. They are offering double salaries to rope in the best account executives, managers, directors, or anyone at whichever level.
Of course our favourite Jobswitch page at AgencyFAQs has currently mentions of agencies like Very Truly Yours and DMA. There must be many more that I don’t know of.
Good news for all, also for me too. Seems like it’s time for an appraisal, or off I go. Of course, we all are opportunists, are not we? Just kidding! But well, at least we know what’s there on the plate on offer right now?
Maybe next time, we can discuss salary packages or which agency is worth joining. This is something we all need to know before stepping inside any agency. You know, from the outside everyone of them look hunky dory. Work there for a month, you realise the same old crappy politics and insecure bosses linger everywhere. May be that is why, there are more and more vacancies and fewer and fewer PR professionals. How about that? I hope I won’t get any blasts from any HR people.

Even though we don’t have accessibility to study in good educational institutes now, it is good to know there are just enough opportunities for job seekers in every industry

It seems Vaishnavi is looking at atleast two dozen new recruits across levels.. The agency is under tremendous heat after two of their top most guys left to join a corporate, a staunch rival of Vaishnavi’s anchor client Tata.
With two of their best brains leaving a vaccum at the top, the agency is finding it tough to meet the delivery levels. The agency is beleived to have upped their salary levels by almost 50% this year to retain the mass exodus of the two teams. with their bosses at the rival’s camp, the teams are finding it tough to hold their ground in the media. Vaishnavi is ready to offer unbeleivable salaries in media relations…. Try it out

Hi pov and anonymous-es,
Thanks for your comments. So now we also know Vaishnavi has upped their salaries, and so better negotiation potential for those who want to join. Good news.

Yep, It seems Vaishnavi is also on a look out for a CEO… Heard a package in range of 40 lakh per annum is in the offing..
The raises they had earlier this month were in range of 40 – 100%. God knows where the money comes from… As far as Tata is paying no harm calling Hello…
