The beginning of PR 2.0

I wrote a story entitled -The Beginning of PR 2.0- for Webnewswire.com. What I wanted to say, in a nutshell, was that today the media is changing. On one hand, online users are increasingly using blogs and web forums as sources of news and information. They are using RSS and atom feeds to subscribe to their favourite newspapers. On the other hand, online search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN are changing the way we do research. They are becoming the new encyclopedia.

To address this new trend and make sure that their information is made visible in these new forms of media, PR professionals across the globe are now engaged in an active discussion and debate on a new version of PR practice, christened PR 2.0, which will be about managing information in the new media 2.0 platforms like RSS/atom feeds, social networking sites, blogs, vblogs, podcasts, etc.

How much of all these are relevant in the Indian context? That is the big question today. But as bloggers and blogs grow in number, as the usage of the web evolve, and as the medium of communication gets redefined, we as communication professionals must keep ourselves open in answering any of the above questions to ourselves and to our clients.
