PR 2.0 essentials
By Editor on Jul 27, 2006 in industry
This is a nice one from Shift Communications. They have come out with a PR 2.0 Essentials ebook, which gives one basic ideas of RSS, blogging, memes, tagging, podcasts, wikis, social networking, social bookmarking, and the social media press release and how this generation’s PR professionals can use these new tools to their advantage. As it says, this will serve as an initial and basic guide through the PR 2.0 jungle.
Whenever there is a new idea floating around, if there is someone who takes the initiative to put that idea into perspective and in a structured manner, the idea takes root as an entity from where it developes further. Shift Communications, firstly coming out with the social media press release template and now this, certainly has earned the applause of many PR professionals, including mine.

SHIFT has done a great service in helping clarify Web2.0 services. This is a very helpful tool for the industry.
Now the challenge moves from understanding the elements of a Social Media, Web2.0 enabled press release, to the PLATFORM for distributing the release.
In my experience, PRWeb is the only firm that has all of the elements fully integrated. Most PR Platforms either keep the release behind a firewall (aside from selected media channel and journalist deliveries), or they are a “passive” platform, with few if any Push technologies.
Also in checking my notes, since the release of the SHIFT template, PRWeb has closed the gap even further (custom Technorati tags were an element in process that the company recently completed).
I’m now going back and activating the Web2.0 features PRWeb has implemented on my past releases, and looking forward to seeing the benefits of social media on my new PR. Let me know if you’d like to see my report when it’s done.
Best regards,
Mark Alan Effinger
