Valentine Day Special: For the love of PR. Thursdays with Tushar

valentine

Today is Valentine day. Love is in the air and I am in a mood to flirt!

But, when I left home yesterday, my wife was a bit worried. She asked me to be careful and not to roam around in the city. I had to do what she advised against. I went for meetings after meetings and in between letting her know that I am safe and sound. After 4:00 PM, the situation became bit tensed in certain parts of the city and many news channels showing visuals from their stock footage started crying wolf. I had to go for one more meeting and I did. I reached home safely and started writing this post. I watched Rajdeep & his battery of experts facing the nation and putting across their arguments and counter arguments and I hear something very interesting. Bharat Dabholkar, our beloved Marathi ad-man acknowledging the power of media and telling Rajdeep that one thing he learnt from this episode of Raj Thackeray is that if you know how to use media effectively, you can do whatever you want! We have learnt this long ago and you know Bharat, that’s why I love my job. I love my profession. I have no harm in confessing that my love for the profession that pushed me to ignore my wife’s genuine and love-filled advice. She knows that!

But, is it a one sided love? Does my profession love me too? I really don’t know the answer but I am not the one who gets defeated so easily. I am a born fighter and have a habit of winning ‘love’. This has been proven by scientific human behaviour measurement techniques being developed by IIM-A. I was labelled as ‘lonely fighter’ by Prof. Indira Parikh twice over and I loved that label. Thank you Prof. Parikh – this has helped me to continue my battles for the pride and love.

So, PR here I come. One day you need to start loving me. And what are my expectations? What am I looking from you? Okay, let me be blunt and demand what I want. I need you to love me for what I do. You need to love me for bringing that smile on client’s face. You need to love me for a genuine interest you demonstrate to understand client’s business. You need to love me for efforts to start every presentation using the blank template. You need to love me for talent I groom for you. You need to love me for passion I show for you. You need to love me for stories you see in the newspapers. You need to love me for celebrities you see on TV. You need to love me for creating superstar journalists and giving you an opportunity to watch so many news television channels. You need to love me for everything.

PR you need to love all the professionals, who are able to maintain that lovely smile despite client’s barks and media’s bites! You need to love all of us, who loves you so much. You need to love all of us, who are giving our best years to you. You need to love all of us, who are always missing out date with our valentine to keep a date with client’s not so ‘well-in-time’ event or a press release! I think you just need to love us for what we are. We are People in PR. We are the ‘P’ in you!

Please take care of yourself this valentine. With lots of love to you, here’s a special love-filled wish from Mumbai and ‘for’ Mumbai – May you get all the love you want today and forever from everyone including those who are ‘Raj’ and who are ‘Na-Raj’!
