Years back, we were doing a CSR project for one of my clients in which it was making community parks for the poor. We were also negotiating with a vendor, who was supposed to put up electric poles and chairs, etc. inside the parks. One day, after a long conference call with the client and the vendor, negotiating on the prices, my boss decided to call the client again and tell him that the vendor’s prices were high and we should consider another.

He asked me the client’s mobile number and in the rush of the moment, I gave him a number from my mind. I thought I remembered the client’s number well.

My boss dialed the number and as soon as he got through, he started without the usual pleasantries, ‘Hi, I just wanted to mention that the vendor’s prices were way too high and we can get better deals from other vendors in the market.’

He paused for a moment and continued, ‘Yes. That’s what. These guys just want to fleece. Rascals.’

Then he paused for another moment, and in a shocked tone, ‘Hello, who is this? Am I talking to …………?’

By mistake, I had given him the vendor’s number. I can’t describe what happened next.

‘Shit happens. Don’t worry. Chill.’ shouted an Account Director from the next room who overheard what was going on.
