TOI institutes PRCAI 1st India PR Awards

New Delhi: India’s leading mainline daily newspaper, The Times of India today announced that it will institute the 1st PRCAI India PR Awards. The Awards will honour distinguished PR professionals, outstanding PR campaigns, and high-performing PR agencies in India.
Would not we like to read this someday soon in the Times of India?
And come to think of it, why can’t PR India has its own awards? Now we know that PR agencies can’t institute them, but surely the PRCAI can. It will be a big booster for all of us in the industry, who are running all over the media houses (ITO and CP in New Delhi) distributing press releases in the sweltering summer heat.
Can we do it? I think Yes!
Who will sponsor it?
Possible Media partner: Why, the Times of India, maybe not other newspapers, but surely the Times Group can. It has already received many flaks from other media houses for coming up with something like MediaNet. Some PR agencies are also not buying MediaNet even today. The Times Group needs to promote MediaNet more in the PR industry, and sponsoring an awards like this will go a long way.
Hotels: Remember all the business class hotels that we organise our press conferences for our clients. We can target the newbies like Sangrila, who want more and more business conferences to happen at their hotel venue.
Event Management companies: We know that PR agencies can plan the biggest budget campaigns for their clients. Suppose if they ever get approved, who will organise all that at the ground level? What wouldn’t an event management agency do to get an annual contract with a PR agency?
PR institues: OK maybe IIMC won’t. But why cant Symbiosis, or YMCA? Don’t they want to get instituted with the best in the industry?
The Jury?
No. Not the current executive committee at PRCAI. They are going to be the winners, you see. So we can ask the advertising guys, the Superbrands India types, the corporate honchos who are PR savvy, a la Anil Ambani.
The award categories? There are so many, ya!
Miscellaneous reasons why we should have these awards?
There are so many awards in the US, Europe and even in South Asian countries, where is India’s? Where is the motivation?
Of course we can do it. Remember we are the ones who plan all the seminars, conferences, fashion shows, and everything else for our clients. And we do it so nicely. Just outsource the initial planning and running around to some PR agency that can volunteer, and there we can go ahead it with this plan. Maybe Genesis PR can do the initial planning and running around. Then Perfect Relations can write letters inviting all the top government and corporate brass to the event. Vaishnavi should get some good pre-event exclusive stories from some of its journalists. Mutual PR should ensure the event gets coverage in all the newspapers, with a minimum hit of 50 all over India. Likewise likewise.
P.S. I just got struck with this idea reading about Ms. Sagar getting the ICCO’s Hall of Fame.
Well, that’s quite wow! Congrats and you have done India PR proud.
