For the cause of PR in India
By Editor on Jun 27, 2006 in industry
Well, we have been looking here for leaders in the PR industry in India who could take the industry to newer heights, speak for the industry, and guide those who are part of the industry. I don’t know if we can find such people, but I wanted to mention about one such organisation in India which has been proactively trying to keep the mommentum and excitement in the industry alive. I cannot mince words admiring the Public Relations Society of India Chennai Chapter in what they have doing for the past many decades. I have asked many people, searched the web, scanned the newspapers, but there seem to be none that is so active like this one.
PRSI Chennai Chapter has in April orgaised a seminar on healthcare PR (the report of which I have uploaded on the new India PR events category here), and is now planning to organise one such seminar or workshop in a quarter. The next one could be on hospitality PR, taking the gamut of Airliners, Hotel Industry, travel sector, SPA and many such players, according to chairman VS Ramana.
Great going, Mr. Ramana. As one of the younger generation PR professionals, we feel inspired by the enthusiasm with which your organisation is nurturing the profession.
By the way, we would love to know more how can we participate, as in giving a speech or merely attending such events. Or how to join PRSI? That would be good information.
Lastly, I wonder if the cameraderie is much stronger there in south India than us here in the north….
PS: Don’t forget to give in your views at the 1st Unofficial Indian Public Relations Survey.

PRSI should rope in more young people. There is lack of interest among young people to join such outfits.

Any outfit (!) (YAK!!)— even organizations one works in, has a combination of old and young! That is abalance of the wise (!?) and the dynamic (!??). It does not assume that the old need not be dynamic and the vice-versa.

Definitely we need to know as to what other chapters are doing. You will soon have PRSI Chandigarh Chapter’s website http://www.prsi.in to keep you updated on the activities. The Chandigarh Chapter is regularly conducting various workshops, lecture meets and seminars for its 40 members strong Chapter.

I fully appreciate what PRSI is doing out there in Chennai influencing a whole lot people. Having said that I would like to add that we at Blue Lotus Communications are offering yoiung PR students to do internship woth us. This allows them to get first hand experience of the field they are about to enter soon. (www.bluelotuspr.com). We would like to work with PRSI in taking PR to great heights.

My name is Leroy Santos. I take care of the Public Relations function at Uhde India - one of the premier Consultancies in India for the design and construction of chemical and industrial plants. I must say I found the PRSI Chennai chapter website quite informative. I am interested however in getting in touch with the Mumbai chapter - no info is available anywhere - except an internet posting of the head of PRSI Mumbai - who is with Concept PR.
I have e-mailed Mr.Ramana to let me have this information as I seek membership to PRSI.
