The ICCO Summit: who all are participating?
By Editor on Sep 5, 2006 in association
The ICCO Global Summit 2006 ‘Forget Best Practices, Think Next Practices’ at New Delhi is just one month away. The list of speakers is impressive and the sessions look tempting. There is also a PRCAI Matchmaking Session wherein Indian PR agencies can seek suitable global partners and affiliates.
So who’s participating? If I am the owner, CEO, or VP of an agency, definitely I will. But if I am just an Account Director or younger, will I shell out Rs. 10,000 – special rate for PR professionals below 30 years of age? Or if I am a student, will I take out Rs. 5,000 for attending this conference? I asked Prema Sagar, founder chairperson of PRCAI.
She explained that folks these days have more opportunities to spend than ever before. Often, money is spent on mobile phones, x number of jeans, bars, ….and rightly so. That is also an essential part of living life in today’s world. But a little investment for one’s own future is not a bad idea.
Why can’t our agencies (employers) pay for us? She said an organisation spends a lot of money in a structured manner for training everyone. They cannot pick some and leave others when it comes to something like ICCO. Individuals need to spend for their own knowledge and growth. After all you take that with you wherever you go.
She gave me an example…’Before I started Genesis more than 14 years ago, I was financially challenged to pay for doing a course in PR. There was nothing suitable in India. The course I did in UK cost equiv of Rs.1,50,000 at that time. I borrowed the money and went for the course….I can say it paid back many times over. This summit will make sense only to those who are committed to and passionate about this profession.’
So that’s the Genesis Burson-Marsteller lady for you. See you at the summit!

I think it should be treated as mandatory for all employees as a prime responsibility of the organisation. But what more can we expect after hearing from Genesis!

10,000????? Is Prema Sagar gone mad?
If anybody can, then pls tell her that its still a huge sum for many of us. I believe the justification for fees is for the YANKEES lifestyle rather than for a passionate PR youngster.
And if the industry blvs those summits are most benefited by middle and top management. Then nobody should be blame for future of PR.

Why can’t PRCAI make this a free entry for all PR people, if it wants the summit to benefit the industry, since it is the industry body itself? They can get the money from the sponsors.

Thanks to Prema Sagar…Do you have an idea that ppl ( Trainees ) are working for 5,000/- 7,000/- month at your own organisation called Genesis !!!
The Senior people of India PR Industry are behaving like the Ayurvedacharya…they wish that no body should learn from their experiences…that will, anyhow, kill those persons and ofcource will hamper largely this Industry.
Why not this summit is free for all the new people of this Industry…why not the big agencies like, Adfactors,Genesis,LinOpinion,H&P,Mutual,Vaishnavi, Sampark etc are ready to bear all the expenses or they should have to come forward that we will manage the expenses…but the basic need is to make this summit available for all the new generation of this Industry…no, they wont…because they dont want to spread the knowledge across the new generation…so that, they can rule this Industry…no…no…they cant…because…one cannt stop thinking of others..which we new generation people have like anything… CHEERS !!!
